How to Plan a Bathroom Renovation

Are you unsure how to go about planning your bathroom renovation? Not sure what you need to do in preparation? Don’t panic, you got this. We have compiled a list of our top 6 steps to ensure your bathroom renovation journey is a success!

1. Call us at 9234 3000 (we will handle the other 5)

No, but really, bathroom renovations are the second most popular renovation project following the kitchen. This area has heavy foot traffic and you want to ensure your new bathroom can stand the test of time.

Before you make an appointment with a professional, you should definitely give some thought to the following points as it will help you and your interior designer with the direction you want to take.

2. Sketch a plan

You don’t need to be an artist to draw up a rough plan of your potential bathroom renovations ideas. Although your sketch may not be accurate, these plans provide a great starting point to what you would like and where you would like them.

For example, you may just want to leave your bathtub and walk-in shower untouched to save yourself the hassle of moving them. The good thing about these sketches is that you can make as many as you want, helping you and your designer to visualise how you want your bathroom layout to look like.

3. Make a list

Create a list of the things you like and dislike about your bathroom and what you would like to change. This list will serve as a basis of what you want to:

  • keep (e.g. existing toilet)
  • upgrade (e.g. single vanity to double vanity)
  • remove (e.g. remove bathtub and replace with a new shower).

4. Schedule your trades

Ensure you also make a list of all the trades you would require for this project. For example, a standard bathroom renovation will on average, require a tiler, a cabinet maker, a waterproofer, a plumber and an electrician. Depending on what you are getting done, you may not require all the trade and on the other end, you may require others that I have not been listed. Ensure you find out the order in which you will require the trades as it varies depending on your bathroom renovation project.

5. Selecting your features

Now it is time to select your decorative features and fixtures to bring your bathroom to life. This is the time to pull up your Pinterest board and see what you have saved in your “Dream Home” mood board. Use these posts as inspiration for when you are picking out your fixtures.
